Wanders of Saliva

Saliva is a humdrum liquid, the stuff of giggles, dribbles and schoolyard grossness. It’s hardly something to take seriously–until, that is, you lack it. When your glands no longer pump out a normal and robust 2 to 3 pints daily, then you’ll come to appreciate spit for the wondrous substance it is–one that does far more than render food slimy and digestible.

Saliva, science has revealed, is much more than water. It is packed with proteins that help control the teeming hordes of microbes in our mouths. It is stuffed with substances that make our spit stringy, stop our teeth from dissolving and help heal wounds. It is brimming with a plethora of hormones and other chemicals revealing anything from whether one smokes to whether one is stressed.

Thus it’s no wonder that trouble starts brewing when mouths dry out. Cavities blossom like flowers in spring. Tongues become sore and fissured, and breeding grounds for yeast. In a spit-depleted world, speaking and swallowing are challenges, eating a cracker is the height of recklessness and you wake up with your tongue glued to your mouth.

Such indignities will be more frequent in future years because the number of saliva-depleted people stands to rise, experts predict. Tens of thousands of Americans receive radiotherapy for head and neck cancers each year–a treatment that can permanently damage salivary glands. Maybe a million have dry mouths because their immune systems are attacking their own glands in a disease known as Sjogren’s syndrome

But an increasing number of people (25 million by some estimates, and more to come as the population ages) get dry mouths as a side effect of more than 400 of today’s medications–taken for depression, high blood pressure and more.

Armed with a deep knowledge of saliva gleaned over decades, this cadre–which jocularly refers to itself as the “salivation army”–is working to create better artificial salivas to keep mouths wet and protected and find new drugs to help saliva flow more freely. They’re trying to repair salivary glands with gene therapy–even to build an artificial gland to implant in the mouth.

And their vision goes far beyond simply mending the mouth. Just as leech saliva gave us anticoagulants, researchers hope that our very own spit may yield new antimicrobial drugs to help battle germs. Or that sick people’s salivary glands can one day be coaxed to make hormones that are needed for their bodies to heal.

“The field’s quite exciting–we’re entering a new phase,” says Lawrence Tabak, a longtime saliva scientist and director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. “People are trying to translate what they’ve learned from nature into things that are going to improve patients’ health. To me, that’s the most exciting thing possible–to take these great, basic science discoveries and translate them into tangibles.”

Dry mouth can damage teeth and for that salivary glands plays a very important part for maintaining good teeth.

Milk and saliva both contain growth factors known to control cell turnover in the body. The Egyptians used breast milk to heal burns and dogs lick their wounds to help them heal. and much anecdotal evidence indicate maggots can help some wounds heal … all their medications on board in their saliva: an … the UW’s division of plastic surgery who has used maggots for difficult wounds.

For small wounds or cut we can always use our own saliva instead of rubing antiseptic and saliva will heal the wounds much faster and more effectively.

Most people follow three paths to good health DOCTOR,DIET and EXERCISE. Some times normal people who decides to respond to health alert tend to go to overboard on neutrition and adopt the wrong exercise.

Rather than exortic neutrents, normal human being needs a diet consisting mainly of grains, fruits, and vegetables with reduced amount of meat and cheese. Rather than weightlifting, TV “aerobics” and so on.. We actually need true arobic exercise that help to strengthen the heart, such as fast walking, cycling, swmming, jogging etc.

I believe byclicing has several extra advantagse over the other exercises:-

A. Cycling exercises the heart better than walking without the pounding of jogging.

B. One can ride bicycle almost all the places,at any time of the year, and at a low cost.

C.A very little or no time has to be lost , as bike travel can be used to go to work, performe errands , or enjoy the out doors.(when the weather condition is favourable)
D.Commuting by bike reduces POLLUTION (which is today’s great concern )that causes several diseases like asthma, bronchitis etc.A commuting cyclist is also less exposed to air pollution than a commuting motorist.(ofcourse, one can do it as and when it is possible to do)

On the down side, cycling does involve some risk of injury which has been greatly exaggerated by fearmongers. Cycling actually has similar risks to traveling by automobile.

BUT ONE SHOULD ALWAYS TAKE PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHILE CYCLING ,LIKE WEARING HELMET,FOLLOWING ROAD RULES ETC.

Children and teen agers enjoy riding bycycle. Every parent should encourage them to learn bycycle riding.

Between the ages of five and eight is the most popular time for kids to learn how to ride a bicycle. Make it the most popular time to learn safe riding skills, too.

At the time of teaching kids how to ride bycycle ,certain steps to taken care of.

Here are the steps:

  • First, teach them the four rules to avoid fatal crashes!
  • :1.Never ride out into the street without stopping first. 2. Always obay stop signs. 3.Check always before turing. 4. Never follow another rider without applying the rules.
  • Then, teach them to wear a helmet,
  • Then, help them learn to balance and ride according to the rules.

Many parents begin and end with teaching balance. But step one is the most important: teaching your child how to avoid the situations that produce hundreds of dead children every year. And you probably are aware already that a helmet is essential when they make a mistake. Teaching them to balance is the easiest part for most kids. Then you have to practice the basic safety rules in actual riding. It can take you an extra couple of hours, but the result is well worth the effort!

Now The Fun Part: Time to Ride and Practice the Rules

Start with a helmet, gloves to protect the skin on their hands and perhaps even skaters’ knee and elbow pads for the first rides. Adjust the bicycle for your child and be sure they can reach pedals, bars and brakes comfortably.Brakes first! Show your kid how to stop the bike. Hold them up and gently move them forward as they use the brakes to stop until you are sure they know how.

Balance: Run alongside the bike, holding it up by the seat with one hand on the handlebars to show how you turn them to keep the bike upright.

Riding: Nobody learns without practice. Riding with your child is probably the best way to practice the rules. Go over the rules, then ride, stopping occasionally to review what they have just done and praise their good performance, never shout much for little mistake, rather encourage for rectification. Notice that if they are behind you, your rule about not following automatically will be severely challenged, even if you ride through a red light or directly into the path of a car! As with almost any other skill, practice is required to ingrain techniques. More than one session will be needed. But the result is worth your time

MOST PEOPLE ENJOY GENERALLY good health. But others do not realize their health status is below average. But it’s never too late to reverse the situation.

Nutritional power

A not-so-new way to attain good health is through nutritional medicine. Before, the general attitude was to get the right nutrients from food without any vitamin supplements. Until now, some people still think vitamins are bad for the body or just a sheer waste of money. Not true.

The reason why supplementation is recommended by physicians today is because of the poor quality of modern life. The typical/popular diet consists of large quantities of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Plus high levels of salt and sugar.

Did you know?

  • The process of making white flour that removes the germ from the outer portion of the grain lessens by 80 percent the magnesium in flour.
  • Meat processing removes 50-70 percent of vitamin B6.
  • Cold storage removes 50 percent of vitamin C in tangerines.
  • Storing asparagus for one week results in the loss of 90 percent of its vitamin C.
  • Freshly-cut salads/fruits lose approximately 50 percent of their nutritional value if left to sit for more than three hours.
  • Vitamin C is sensitive to heat and cold. Prolonged storage weakens it.
  • Freezing destroys more than 50 percent of meat’s B vitamins.

Best Food list

  • The best protein and fats come from vegetables and vegetable oils, avocados, olive oil, nuts, beans, soy, virgin coconut oil. They contain fats that lower cholesterol levels.
  • The best carbohydrates are from whole fruits and vegetables. An apple is considered better than apple juice. Avoid all processed foods.
  • The next best protein and fat sources are cold-water fish like sardines, mackerel, tuna, salmon. Fats from these decrease inflammation in the body (the cause of disease).
  • The next best protein comes from fowl. The fat of the bird is found on top and not in the meat. Though it is considered saturated fat, if you remove the skin, you get lean meat.
  • The worst kind of fat is from red meat and dairy products. If you will eat meat, get the leanest cut of all. If you take eggs, try organic.
  • It is said if you follow this food guide, instead of stimulating the release of insulin, the body releases glucagons that use fat, lower blood pressure, decrease triglycerides and LDC (bad) cholesterol and raise HDC (good) cholesterols.
  • Best defense
  • If one eats healthy, a generous dose of antioxidants strengthens the defense against disease. The immune system needs help from an army consisting of vitamins C, B, E and A; and betacarotene as well as CoQ10, alpha-lipoic acid, bioflavonoids, glutathione, grape seed extract, selenium and zinc.Studies have shown that these nutrients can heal and even improve a serious health condition. Optimize your body’s natural defense system. Take a long hard look at your health today. Then take charge by making a stand
  • .Best relaxations
In a tub of warm water, blend rose and lavender oils. Close your eyes. Play meditation music. Forget your worries.
Affirmation: “Today and always, I take charge of my body, my mind and my sole. And so it is.

Sleep well for good health

Sleep is defined as a natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes usually close and consciousness is completely or partially lost, so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli.
To have a sound and good sleep :-
* Sleep in a room that is dark, quiet, and fresh smelling.Do not expose yourself to bright light while you are sleeping. Light will make your brain stay awake.

* It is important to sleep in a well ventilated room. Don’t be afraid to open a window, even in winter. It is better to put on an extra woolen blanket than to breathe in stale air.
The amount of clean oxygen-rich air that you breath has an effect on your growth. Poor air can cause breathing defects and can prevent you from growing during sleep.

* Sleep with clean, soft, and comfortable clothes. Rough clothing can block the blood circulation and make you shift and turn many times during the night, thus preventing you from deep sleep. Remember your growth hormone can only work well when you fall into deep sleep.

* Keep your hands and feet warm. Scientific studies have shown that warm hands and feet will help induce REM (rapid eye movement) deep sleep. Cold hands and feet will keep you from deep sleep.

* Drink a big glass of water before going to bed and when you wake up; this will help clean out your system. Milk can also help you sleep. It contains an amino acid called
tryptophan, which produces the effect of a sedative. Do not consume any foods or drink that contain caffeine, nicotine,or alcohol at least 4 to 5 hours before going to bed.
Caffeine and nicotine are stimulants that will keep you from sleeping. Also, refrain from a large meal at least 3 hours before bed time.

* Doing exercises during the day can help you sleep better at night. , it will increase your blood circulation and quicken your metabolism for a whole day, so you should
perform enough exercise to ensure a good night’s sleep.

* Taking a hot bath before going to bed helps induce deep sleep because it cleans your body and relaxes tense muscles.

* Practice total relaxation and deep breathing for a few minutes before you go to bed. Relax from head to toe. Close your eyes and relax every part of your body. Do complete breathing exercises by following the three phases: (1) Inhale slowly and deeply through the nose for 3 to 5 seconds making sure that your stomach as well as your chest expand.
(2) Hold your breath for another 3 to 5 seconds; tighten
your stomach muscles lightly. (3) Exhale slowly and fully
through the mouth and nose. This breathing exercise will
help balance your blood circulation and get your body ready
to rest.

* Maintain a habit of sleeping at the same time everyday, including weekends. This will help you develop a regular rhythm for sleep. Your brain will send you a “sleep signals”
at about the same time every day, which can help you fall into deep sleep easier and faster.

Humanism

[amazon_link asins=’B00ZUSH5GO,1591022398,1620401924,0300115466,1453204636,1591024994,B00VJ5Z0DM,0525427570,0199553645′ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’finmeacur-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’164ea4ce-883f-11e8-a655-4b4f5b303dbe’]

Humanism should be today’s religion for every human of the world.I strongly believe every man should believe in only one religion and that is totally Secular Humanism. It is a fact that every religion of the world has lots preachings of humanism in it.But it is also a fact that every religion has its own way preaching humanism, and moreover,it separates man from one religion to a man of other religion. although the ultimate goal of every religion is to achieve mental peace and happiness and to reah near the suprim force ,or the power, the GOD.

.While the dominant forms of humanism are atheistic (and express a disbelief in the supernatural), not all forms of humanism are. However, all forms of humanism are built around a rejection of the importance of the supernatural in human affairs, regardless of whether or not it exists. In this way, humanism as a group of related philosophies does not necessarily rule out some form of theism or deism, and there are many humanists who consider themselves religious, some of whom are members of (typically, liberal) religious organizations. What humanism clearly rejects is blind deference to supernatural beliefs in resolving human affairs, not necessarily the beliefs themselves.

According to humanism, it is up to us to find the truth, not wait for it to be handed to us through revelation, mysticism, tradition, or anything else that is incompatible with the application of logic to the evidence. In demanding that we avoid blindly accepting unsupported beliefs, it supports scientific scepticism and the scientific method, rejecting authoritarianism and extreme skepticism, and rendering faith an unacceptable basis for action. Likewise, humanism asserts that knowledge of right and wrong is based on our best understanding of our individual and joint interests, rather than stemming from a transcendental or arbitrarily local source.

Humanism features an optimistic attitude about the capacity of people, but it does not involve believing that human nature is purely good or that each and every person is capable of living up to the humanist ideals of rationality and morality. If anything, there is the recognition that living up to our potential is hard work and requires the help of others. The ultimate goal is human flourishing; making life better. Even among humanists who do believe in some sort of an afterlife, the focus is on doing good and living well in the here and now, and leaving the world better for those who come after us, not on suffering through life to be rewarded afterwards.

There are many people who consider themselves humanists, and much variety in the exact type of humanism they believe in. There is some disagreement over terminology and definitions, with some people using narrower or broader interpretations. Not all people who call themselves humanists hold beliefs that are genuinely humanistic, and not all people who do hold humanistic beliefs apply the label of humanism to themselves.

Secular Humanism is the branch of humanism that rejects any particular religion and the existence of a supernatural. It is often associated with scientists and academics. Secular humanists generally believe that following humanist principes naturally leads to secularism, on the basis that only one religious views cannot be supported rationally. If someone believes in secular humanism , there is no reason why one will not believe in the supreme force or the power that has created this unique universe.
Humanism teaches us that it is not wise to wait for God to act for us. We must act to stop the wars(as there lies the sprit of GOD in every human being) and the crimes and the brutality of this and future ages. We have powers of a remarkable kind. We have a high degree of freedom in choosing what we will do. Humanism tells us that whatever our philosophy of the universe may be, ultimately the responsibility for the kind of world in which we live rests with us.

Now, while Secular Humanists may agree with much of what religious Humanists do, they deny that this activity is properly called “religious.” This isn’t a mere semantic debate. Secular Humanists maintain that there is so much in religion deserving of criticism that the good name of Humanism should not be tainted by connection with it.

Now, what is Religion?
Religion is a human phenomenon that defies easy definition. It is commonly understood as a group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object (real or imagined), person (real or imagined), or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, devine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought. It is sometimes used interchangeably with “faith” or belief system In the course of the development of religion, it has taken many forms in various cultures and individuals and all these were needed according to the need of the time. Occasionally, the word “religion” is used in the more restrictive sense of “organized religion”. Religion is very important structure of the socity. We all must believe in a higher power, in whatever shape and form, to become spiritual, to be connected to each other and the world, to tap into the mystical energy of life.It is religious aggression that leads to evil doings and war. . Tolerance, respect and love are the keys to peace in the world. And when you think about it, we are all family members of one village called Earth.
Why we need to have one and only one religion today?
Today, the world has totally changed . The whole human population is practically living in a single village now….. THE GLOBAL VILLAGE.Where now people can talk , see and communicate each other much much faster and easier way.. Now, we are a single community….. a human community. So, we must have a single religion……..which we may call Humanism. This community should have only one type of place for praying instead of going to church, mandir or masjid , we would go to one place only and pray for the betterment of humanity. Our priest should preach us the preaching that we need most today to save the humanity and save the world. And I believe saving the environment for saving the whole world and it’s living creatures should be one of them.
