Dyspepsia

Dyspepsia is word of Greek origin meaning indigestion or difficulty in digestion. It is a common ailment and results from dietetic error……....CLICK & SEE

Many cases of dyspepsia are caused by stomach ulcers which are diagnosed with a barium meal test or gastroscopy. Most cases of ulcer dyspepsia are caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. However, some studies also suggest non-ulcer dyspepsia may be resolved from eradicating this infection. In some situations (such as in ulcers), high levels of gastric acid may irritate the stomach lining and cause dyspeptic symptoms. Dyspepsia may also be a side effect from drugs treating other diseases.

Symptoms:
Abdominal pain a feeling of undue fullness after eating, heartburn, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting, and flatulence or gas are the usual symptoms of dyspepsia. Vomiting usually provides relief. Other symptoms are foul taste in the mouth, coated tongue, and foul breath. At times a sensation of strangling in the throat is experienced. In most cases of indigestion, the patients suffer from constipation.

Side Effects:
Side effects of dyspepsia may include nausea, pain in any part of the abdomen, constipation, irritability, and maybe even blood in the feces.

Root Cause:
The main causes of dyspepsia are overeating, eating wrong food combinations, eating too rapidly and neglecting proper mastication and salivation of food, overeating, makes the work of the stomach, lever, kidneys and bowels harder. When the food putrefies, its poisons are absorbed into he blood and consequently the whole system is poisoned. Certain foods especially if they are not properly cooked, cause dyspepsia. Other causes are intake of fried food, rich and spicy food, excessive smoking, intake of alcohol, constipation, habit of eating and drinking together, insomnia, emotions such as jealousy, fear and anger and lack of exercise.

Treatment:
Functional dyspepsia is defined as chronic or recurrent pain or discomfort centered in the upper abdomen. For the sake of this discussion, it is important to clarify that functional dyspepsia often is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning that endoscopy for other conditions such as GERD or PUD is negative, and the patient is Helicobacter pylori-negative.

Traditional therapies used for this diagnosis include lifestyle modification, antacids, H2-receptor antagonists (H2-RAs), prokinetic agents, and antiflatulents. It is has been noted that one of the most frustrating aspects of treating functional dyspepsia is that these traditional agents have been shown to have little or no efficacy.

Ayurvedic Healing Option:

Herbs good for Dyspepsia: Lemon, Grapes, Carrot and Fenugreek

Diet
: The best way to commence treatment is to adopt a light diet like soup, fruits, juices, boiled vegetables etc. The patient may thereafter, gradually embark upon a well balanced diet consisting of fresh fruits raw and steamed vegetables, seeds, nuts and whole grains.

Lifestyle: The patients suffering from indigestion must always follow certain rules regarding eating, never to hurry through a meal, never to eat on a full stomach, and not to eat if appetite is lacking.Smokers should stop smoking and alcohol intake should be reduced to minimum.

Ayurvedic Supplements : 1. Arogyavardhini Bati 2. Liverole Strong 3. Lashunadi Bati.

Yoga:
1. The Knee to Chest (Pawanmuktasan) 2.Vajrasana 3.The Lotus (Padma Asana)...PRANAYAMA.…(Specially  KAPALVATI  AND  ANULOMVILOM)

Eating less, exercising more equally good

Eating less and exercising more are equally good at helping take off the pounds, US researchers said on Friday in a study that challenges many of the popular tenets of the multibillion dollar diet and fitness industry…..click & see

Tests on overweight people show that a calorie is just a calorie, whether lost by dieting or by running, they said.

They found there is no way to selectively lose belly fat, for instance, or trim thighs. And their carefully controlled study added to evidence that adding muscle mass does not somehow boost metabolism and help dieters take off even more weight.

“It’s all about the calories,”said Dr. Eric Ravussin of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, part of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.

“So long as the energy deficit is the same, body weight, fat weight, and abdominal fat will all decrease in the same way.”

Ravussin said the study, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism is one of the few done under controlled conditions that can actually show what happens to a human body while dieting and exercising.

Ravussin’s team has been testing volunteers for another reason — to see if taking in fewer calories helps people live longer.

Strict diets have been shown to help animals from worms to dogs live longer, but it takes longer to study monkeys and humans.

They tested 24 people, 12 who ate a calorie-restricted diet, and 12 who dieted and also exercised five times a week for six months.

The dieters ate 25% less than normal, while the exercisers reduced their calorie intake by 12.5% and increased their physical activity to lose an extra 12.5 in calories.

Another 10 volunteers acted as controls. All food was provided in carefully measured portions for most of the study.

The volunteers in both groups lost 10% of body weight, 24% of fat mass, and 27% of abdominal visceral fat. Visceral fat is packed in between the internal organs and is considered the most dangerous type of fat, linked with heart disease and diabetes.

The distribution of the fat on the body was not altered by either approach — helping prove that there is no such thing as “spot reducing”, Ravussin said in a telephone interview. This suggests that “individuals are genetically programmed for fat storage in a particular pattern and that this programming cannot easily be overcome”, he added.

Ravussin has published other studies that also dispute the idea that exercise builds muscle that helps people lose weight.

“If anything, highly trained people are highly efficient, so they burn fewer calories at rest,”Ravussin said. Dieting alone also did not appear to cause the volunteers to lose muscle mass along with fat, Ravussin’s team found.

“There is a concept that if you exercise, you are going to lose less of your muscle,”he said. But his team found no evidence this is true.

Reading diet articles may harm health

Magazine headlines entice teenage girls with promises: “Get the body you want” and “Hit your dream weight now!” But a new study suggests reading articles about diet and weight loss could have unhealthy consequences later.

Teenage girls who frequently read magazine articles about dieting were more likely five years later to practice extreme weight-loss measures such as vomiting than girls who never read such articles, the University of Minnesota study found.

It didn’t seem to matter whether the girls were overweight when they started reading about weight loss, nor whether they considered their weight important. After taking those factors into account, researchers still found reading articles about dieting predicted later unhealthy weight loss behaviour.

Girls who read dieting articles were twice as likely five years later to try to lose weight by fasting or smoking cigarettes, compared to girls who never read such articles. They were three times more likely to use measures such as vomiting or taking laxatives, the study found.

“The articles may be offering advice such as cutting out trans fats and soda, and those are good ideas for everybody,” said Alison Field of Harvard Medical School. “But the underlying messages these articles send are ‘You should be concerned about your weight and you should be doing something.‘”

Tips To Kick Start Your Weight Loss

[amazon_link asins=’B00VBIROF4,B0722XQVT5,B075KCNKVT,B071PDY5DS,B00ISAPPLI,B07FDKN2D9,B06XXP2B3Y,B008C9KWH2,B00GB85MZI’ template=’ProductCarousel’ store=’finmeacur-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’23de79bc-8dc0-11e8-99e4-81bc38079412′]

Quite simply, to lose weight and improve your condition, you have to eat less, eat more often, and eat better. But daily some form of physical exercise is a must.

Here are some simple steps to take:

9 Simple Diet Changes:

1. Plan your meals. It’s the best way we know of to stick to healthy eating goals. Use the weekly meal planners in the personal planner, and give preference to chicken, fish, and bean-based dishes.

2. Eat more often. The best approach for diabetes is to eat three moderate-sized meals (including breakfast!) and two healthy snacks a day.

3. Eat five servings of vegetables a day. By eating more vegetables, you’ll automatically eat more fiber and less fat. And vegetables are full of disease-fighting compounds. One serving is 1/2 cup canned or cooked vegetables or 1 cup raw vegetables.

4. Eat four servings of fruit a day. A serving of fruit is one piece of whole fruit, 1/2 cup cooked or canned fruit, or 1 cup raw fruit. Have fruit with breakfast and as snacks.

5. Switch to whole grains. Whole grains such as whole wheat bread and brown rice contain fiber, which blunts the rise of blood sugar. Aim for 3-6 servings a day. A serving is 1 slice whole wheat bread or 1/2 cup brown rice or whole wheat pasta.

6. Calcium-rich foods. They facilitate weight loss. Aim to get 2-3 servings a day of low-fat calcium foods such as milk, yogurt, and cheese. A serving is 1 cup milk or yogurt or 1 1/2 ounces nonprocessed cheese.

7. Eat beans 3-5 times a week. Beans are loaded with fiber, especially soluble fiber, which lowers cholesterol.

8. Focus on “good fats.” While saturated fats (the kind found in red meat, butter, and ice cream) contribute to insulin resistance, “good” fats help stabilize your blood sugar. Favor fish over red meat and olive or canola oil over butter.

9. Watch your portion sizes. Keep in mind that a main-dish serving of meat is only the size of a deck of cards, and pasta and cereal should be kept to less than 1 cup.
Take this quiz to discover how your current eating habits rate and zero in on what you’re doing right — and wrong — when it comes to eating for optimum health.
