Environmental pollution and growth of different Disesses

This is most talked about subject in today’s world. Many studies in people have demonstrated an association between environmental exposure and certain diseases or other health problems. Examples include radon and lung cancer; arsenic and cancer in several organs; lead and nervous system disorders; disease-causing bacteria such as E. coli O157: H7 (e.g., in contaminated meat and water) and gastrointestinal illness and death; and particulate matter and aggravation of heart and respiratory diseases.

To understand the relationship between health and the environment, scientists study a series of events that begins with the release of a pollutant into the environment and may end with the development of disease in a person or a population.

I do wander whether there will come a time when we can no longer afford our westfulness-chemical waste in rivers, metal waste everywhere, and attomic wastes burried deep into the earth or sink into the sae.

Pollution is nothing but the action of enviromental contamination with man made waste. This includes mainly land, water and air.Pollution comes in various forms including the lesser known noise., light and thermal pollution.

Growth of world population, advancement of science and technology and our greed to become more powerful has already brought us to such a stage that from here we can never go back. So, all the time we are pulling our beautiful world with its flora and fauna to the devastrative grave. YES, WE ALL KNOW IT FOR SURE, THAT ALL THE BEAUTIFUL CREATIONS WILL BE LOST SOME DAY.

But we can still hope to extend its destraction time to few more generations ,if every human of the world gets conscious from today and starts doing something to save the environment as much as one can do.It may be as little as to switching off your room light or fan when you donot need it.If we are conscious today, our next generation will also be more conscious tomorrow and that way only we will extend the period of devestration and the world will be a better living place for few more years for our next generations.

Skipping is a very good exercise for chieldren.Even for teen agers Skipping is an excelent exercise. It the best form of exercise which is beneficial to most of the organs of the body.Skipping improves fitness, behaviour, and is enjoible to everyone. It helps to develop co-ordination,co-operation and communication skills and it is an activity that both boys and girls can do togather.I believe that Skipping to be the best form of exercise for todays chieldren. As it does not always need much space and can be done indoor.
Skipping improves cardiovascular fitness, increases mascular strength, better endurance, greater flexibility, strong bones, improve balance, improve agility but the most important is that it helps to become tall with the age and balance weight with the height.

In my personal experience I have found that those who did regular skipping exercise in their chieldhood are taller persons afterwards when they grow up, than those who never care to do it.So, I would request every parent who wants their chield to be tall should encourage the chield to practice skipping daily .

Tips for safe skipping

  • Don’t try too much too soon. Start with a 1:3 skipping: rest ratio, so if you skip for five minutes you rest for 15, and build up slowly
  • Make sure the children (and you) are wearing appropriate shoes, such as cross-trainers or aerobic shoes, as these provide appropriate stability and cushioning under the forefoot
  • Choose a well-lit area, preferably with a springy wooden floor or a carpeted surface, or put a thin, non-slip exercise mat down first
  • Watch for posture. Knees and ankles should be bent and the torso straight when jumping. Arms should be by the skipper’s side, with the rope turning from the wrists and forearms
  • Before skipping, do five minutes of gentle cardiovascular exercise, such as walking or marching. Then, gently stretch all the major muscle groups. Remember to cool down, bringing the heart rate down gently at the end of a session. Stretches should be repeated

Irritable Bowel Syndrom(IBS)

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)?

Irritable bowel syndrome is a disorder characterized most commonly by cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. IBS causes a great deal of discomfort and distress, but it does not permanently harm the intestines and does not lead to a serious disease, such as cancer. Most people can control their symptoms with diet, stress management, and prescribed medications. For some people, however, IBS can be disabling. They may be unable to work, attend social events, or even travel short distances.

SYMPTOMS OF IBS

Abdominal pain, bloating, and discomfort are the main symptoms of IBS. However, symptoms can vary from person to person. Some people have constipation, which means hard, difficult-to-pass, or infrequent bowel movements. Often these people report straining and cramping when trying to have a bowel movement but cannot eliminate any stool, or they are able to eliminate only a small amount. If they are able to have a bowel movement, there may be mucus in it, which is a fluid that moistens and protect passages in the digestive system. Some people with IBS experience diarrhea, which is frequent, loose, watery, stools. People with diarrhea frequently feel an urgent and uncontrollable need to have a bowel movement. Other people with IBS alternate between constipation and diarrhea. Sometimes people find that their symptoms subside for a few months and then return, while others report a constant worsening of symptoms over time.

SOME OF THE CAUSES

Researchers have yet to discover any specific cause for IBS. One theory is that people who suffer from IBS have a colon (large bowel) that is particularly sensitive and reactive to certain foods and stress. The immune system, which fights infection, may also be involved.

  • Normal motility, or movement, may not be present in a colon of a person who has IBS. It can be spasmodic or can even stop working temporarily. Spasms are sudden strong muscle contractions that come and go.
  • The lining of the colon called the epithelium, which is affected by the immune and nervous systems, regulates the flow of fluids in and out of the colon. In IBS, the epithelium appears to work properly. However, when the contents inside the colon move too quickly, the colon looses its ability to absorb fluids. The result is too much fluid in the stool. In other people, the movement inside the colon is too slow, which causes extra fluid to be absorbed. As a result, a person develops constipation.
  • A person’s colon may respond strongly to stimuli such as certain foods or stress that would not bother most people.

Recent research has reported that serotonin is linked with normal gastrointestinal (GI) functioning. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter, or chemical, that delivers messages from one part of your body to another. Ninety-five percent of the serotonin in your body is located in the GI tract, and the other 5 percent is found in the brain. Cells that line the inside of the bowel work as transporters and carry the serotonin out of the GI tract. People with IBS, however, have diminished receptor activity, causing abnormal levels of serotonin to exist in the GI tract. As a result, people with IBS experience problems with bowel movement, motility, and sensation—having more sensitive pain receptors in their GI tract.

In addition, people with IBS frequently suffer from depression and anxiety, which can worsen symptoms. Similarly, the symptoms associated with IBS can cause a person to feel depressed and anxious.

Researchers have reported that IBS may be caused by a bacterial infection in the gastrointestinal tract. Studies show that people who have had gastroenteritis sometimes develop IBS, otherwise called post-infectious IBS

The following have been associated with a worsening of IBS symptoms

  • large meals
  • bloating from gas in the colon
  • medicines
  • wheat, rye, barley, chocolate, milk products, or alcohol
  • drinks with caffeine, such as coffee, tea, or colas
  • stress, conflict, or emotional upsets

Researchers have found that women with IBS may have more symptoms during their menstrual periods, suggesting that reproductive hormones can worsen IBS problems.

How is IBS diagnosed?

If you think you have IBS, seeing your doctor is the first step. IBS is generally diagnosed on the basis of a complete medical history that includes a careful description of symptoms and a physical examination.

There is no specific test for IBS, although diagnostic tests may be performed to rule out other diseases. These tests may include stool sample testing, blood tests, and x rays. Typically, a doctor will perform a sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy, which allows the doctor to look inside the colon. This is done by inserting a small, flexible tube with a camera on the end of it through the anus. The camera then transfers the images of your colon onto a large screen for the doctor to see better.

If your test results are negative, the doctor may diagnose IBS based on your symptoms, including how often you have had abdominal pain or discomfort during the past year, when the pain starts and stops in relation to bowel function, and how your bowel frequency and stool consistency have changed. Many doctors refer to a list of specific symptoms that must be present to make a diagnosis of IBS.

Symptoms include

  • Abdominal pain or discomfort for at least 12 weeks out of the previous 12 months. These 12 weeks do not have to be consecutive.
  • The abdominal pain or discomfort has two of the following three features:
    • It is relieved by having a bowel movement.
    • When it starts, there is a change in how often you have a bowel movement.
    • When it starts, there is a change in the form of the stool or the way it looks.
  • Certain symptoms must also be present, such as
    • a change in frequency of bowel movements
    • a change in appearance of bowel movements
    • feelings of uncontrollable urgency to have a bowel movement
    • difficulty or inability to pass stool
    • mucus in the stool
    • bloating

Once a person is diagnosed as IBS , I believe the best way to cure the disease PERMANENTLY is to practice daily CLEANSING PROCESS YOGA
alongwith doctor’s prescribed medicine.Ayurvedic herbal medicine is very good for this kind of disease.

Drink milk daily

MILK DRINKING PROTECTS HEALTH

It contents Minerals & Vitamins,Lactose,Fat,Protein and Water. But of course, composition of milk varies greatly according to the factors such as climate, the feed and the breed of animal and it’s general state of health.

NEW RESEARCH SHOWS DRINKING MILK MAY HELP YOUR HEART

Drinking milk regularly does not cause coronary problems and can actually protect against poor health.
New research (1,2) shows that regularly drinking milk can significantly reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

For the past 24 years Professor Peter Elwood and colleagues from the University of Wales have followed the dietary habits of some 2,500 men from South Wales, aged between 45 and 59 years.

Called the Caerphilly Collaborative Heart Disease Study, the research (1) (published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition) showed that the men who drank more than a pint of milk each day reduced their risk of heart disease and stroke by 30%, compared with those who drank no milk.

Other research has shown that three portions of dairy a day, in combination with 5 portions of fruit and vegetables, can lower blood pressure – without resorting to medication.

Some research suggests that drinking more milk may help some people lose weight. But how? It appears that dairy products contain certain substances — including calcium — that may help regulate weight loss. But much more research is needed to determine what, if any, role milk and other dairy products may play in weight loss.

A new study published in Obesity Research suggests that drinking milk while dieting may help you double the amount of weight you lose. The research also suggests milk may help you lose the fat and keep the muscle – even if you’re not trying to lose weight. This is third clinical trial in the last two years that has reinforced milk’s role in enhancing weight loss efforts when included as part of a reduced-calorie diet

New Study Reveals Women who Regularly Drink Milk are Less Likely to Develop Breast Cancer.

Honey is good for health.

CONSUME ONE SPOON OF HONEY DAILY TO LEAD A HEALTHY AND LONG LIFE.

It should be appreciated that Honey as natural food is delicious to eat. It has many curative effects too. Several Ayurvedic medicines are made from pure honey. It has tremendous positive effects on human body. There are various other aspects that have been proved by scintific research.

Due to the main components fructose and glucose, and due to the high osmotic pressure (osmotic value) of these monosaccharides, honey as a carbohydrate food is rapidly and directly absorbed into the blood. Therefore it supplies energy very quickly to the various organs, muscles, brain, etc. The absorption of fructose is faster than that of glucose. For weakened or over-exerted people, this rapid energy supply is of great nutritional value (especially for top class sportsmen, convalescent people, or babies).Liver function is rapidly activated by fructose. In the diet of liver patients, honey is very often recommended. Honey supports the detoxicating liver functions due to its glucose/fructose and cholin content.Honey promotes the peristalsis of the intestines, has a laxative effect, and stimulates the secretions of the intestines. The high osmotic pressure, the content of acetylcholin, and flavour components are responsible for this effect

In a study of 25 healthy adults, Gross and her colleagues showed that honey can boost antioxidant levels. For 29 days, participants added 4 tablespoons of buckwheat honey to their daily diet. The researchers tested two types of buckwheat honey with different amounts of antioxidants. Blood samples taken at the beginning and end of the study showed that the total level of phenolics increased in both groups of volunteers. In Ayurveda honey is called as “Madhu”. Its qualities are multivarius.

The contents of Honey are:

1. Sugars like fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose, lactose and other disaccharides and trisaccharides.

2. Proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids.

3. Volatile aromatic substances.

4. Ashes and water etc.

Various ingredients of honey have helped it to become not only a sweet liquid but also a natural product with high nutritional and medicinal value.

The medicinal quality, taste, texture, color, aroma of honey differs according to the geographical area and the species of plants from which it has been collected.

Types of Honey:

Eight types of honey are described in ayurveda depending on the type of bee which collects it. They are Pouttika, Bhramara, Kshoudra, Makshika, Chatra, Arghya, Oudalaka, Dala.

Pouttika – This honey is collected by very large bees from the nectar of poisonous flowers. It increases vata, causes gout and burning sensation in chest. It is also sedative and reduces fat.

Bhramara – This honey is collected by large bees and sticky in nature.

Kshoudra – (Honey collected by medium sized honey bees) light and cold in nature. Dissolves Kapha.

Makshika – (Honey collected by small honey bees) very light and dry natured. Usefull in VataKapha diseases and kapha diseases.

Chatra – Heavy and cold in nature useful in gout, Leucoderma (Shwitra).

Arghya – Good for eyes but causes arthritis.

Oudalaka – Useful in skin diseases, and helps in modulation of voice.

Dala – Dry and reduces vomiting.

Amongst all the above “Makshika” is considered as the best type with immense medicinal properties.

Therapeutic uses of Honey:

1. As it contains sugars which are quickly absorbed by our digestive system and converted into energy, this can be used as instant energizer.

2. As it is hygroscopic it speeds up healing, growth of healing tissue and dries it up.

3. Honey acts as a sedative and is very useful in bed wetting disorders.

4. Honey is very good antioxident which restores the damaged skin and gives soft, young looks.

5. Honey has antibacterial properties due to its acidic nature and enzymically produced hydrogen peroxide.

6. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

In Ashtanga Hridaya the great classic of ayurveda, the therapeutic uses of honey are explained as follows.

“Chakshushayam Chedi tritshleshmavishahidmaasrapittanut |
